Every so often (once that I know of in the seven years I've been here) the door to the 3rd floor stairs gets locked by security. The key is in the reference desk drawer--it's #15. Incidentally, that key also opens the staff room, which gets locked more often.

At a student's urging, I placed a work order with facilities to de-squeak the 2nd floor entrance to the library. But maybe I should have just looked to see if we have any WD-40 in the office supply cabinet?

Per a staff discussion on the best way to share information about reference equipment (and bathroom) problems, I have created an OUT OF ORDER sign that should be filled out by the reference staff who notices the issue and then by any subsequent people who deal with it.

Several copies of the sign have been stored in the reference desk drawer, in the hanging folder marked SIGNS in the file folder marked OUT OF ORDER.

The master is located in the library staff drive at H:\SIGNS\outoforder.xls

An exterminator came today in response to Amy's report of ants by the photocopier on the 2nd floor. A reader indicated that they are also in the area near room 207. The exterminator left some bait (presumably poison) and recommended we switch to alcohol or chlorine based cleaners, rather than using those composed of ammonia or vinegar. (The glass cleaner currently in the ref. desk is ammonia based.)
