Borrow Direct loan period extension

Effective today, new requests placed through Borrow Direct have a loan period of six weeks instead of four. Please alert your staff and patrons to this exciting new development. Items received later this week and next will reflect this new loan period.

Books requested and received before today are still due on the date marked on the book. Recalled items must always be returned as soon as notice is given.

reference desk printer

Hi All,

I've often come to the desk to find the reference desk printer flashing its little orange error light or with a paper marked "out of order" (no useful information for troubleshooting) on it.

Here's one tip that has worked on 90% of the problems I've encountered with the reference desk printer:
That's it.

If it's still acting wonky,

If none of the above works, please at leave a note that explains to the best of your ability what the problem is or how it was caused.

And try not to leave massive print jobs hanging for someone else to deal with.

CLIO RECORDS IN ALL UPPER CASE CHARACTERS

Posted to CUL Notes by Ilona Bicsak:

Staff and patrons may begin to see brief records in CLIO in all upper case characters representing recently published materials. As an example, please see “VISUAL OBJECT OF DESIRE IN LATE MEDIEVAL ENGLAND (Bib ID 6326362)

These are brief bibliographic records for recently ordered monographs using GOBI - the ordering database of our new primary domestic monograph vendor, YBP.

Sometimes referred to as EOCR’s (Electronic Order Confirmation Records) they are batch loaded into CLIO and will be replaced by standard cataloging records (mostly supplied by YBP) when the ordered book is received at Columbia. These records should not be confused with the OTF (On the Fly) or unlinked item records created for circulation purposes when we used NOTIS.

Please feel free to contact any MPS supervisor for questions related to these order records.

Serial Set Maps

A specialized, additional search module for Readex U.S. Congressional Serial Set, Serial Set Maps allows users to focus searches on the maps themselves - the geographic areas they depict, the subjects they represent, their titles, and the names associated with the maps either as cartographers, explorers, or in some other capacity. Serial Set Maps will eventually cover the full scope of the Readex U. S. Congressional Serial Set. Its current range of coverage is:

Map images, records, and indexing for maps published in Reports and Documents of the 42nd Congress, 3rd session through the 52nd Congress, 1st session.

Covering years: 1872 - 1892
Serial Set Volumes 1544 - 2890
As of November 2007: 10,463 Maps

The folks at Readex are not currently planning on integrating this module into their main Serial Set interface.
