monitor BarnardReference IM addresses
I set up Meebo so that if you open Internet Explorer from the reference desk computer (not your own computer, if you're remoting in--you'll have to set that up separately on your machine, or ask me to) you can click one button to log into BarnardReference via AIM, Google Talk, and Yahoo.
You should not need the password unless someone logs into a different account via IE. Give me a holler if you need a reminder of the password.
Reference librarians (others are welcome, too) should try to remember to log in when they cover the desk on Saturdays, Sundays, and weeknights.

Circulation Supervisor Shuffle
If I've got this straight:

Here are a bunch of new electronic resources available for your researching pleasure:
17th-18th Century Burney Collection Newspapers
A searchable full-text access to the British Library’s collection of the
newspapers, pamphlets, and books gathered by Reverend Charles Burney
(1757-1817)–the largest and most comprehensive collection of early
English news media. More than twelve hundred titles and almost one
million pages are included.
19th Century British Library Newspapers
Searchable full text of full runs of newspapers specially selected by
the British Library to best represent nineteenth-century Britain. This
new collection includes national and regional newspapers, as well as
newspapers from: established country or university towns; the new
industrial powerhouses of the manufacturing Midlands; and Scotland,
Ireland and Wales. Special attention was paid to include newspapers that
helped lead particular political or social movements such as Reform,
Chartism, and Home Rule. Penny papers aimed at the working and clerical
classes are also included.
Archive of Celtic-Latin Literature
Contains the texts processed thus far from the corpus of Celtic-Latin literature from the period 400-1200 as part of the Royal Irish Academy’s Dictionary of Medieval Latin from Celtic Sources project.
Aristoteles Latinus Database
Contains the complete corpus of medieval Greek-Latin translations of the
works of Aristotle as published in the printed work, Aristoteles Latinus.
Colonial State Papers
Colonial State Papers provides access to thousands of papers concerning English activities in the American, Canadian, and West Indian colonies between the sixteenth and eighteenth centuries. Colonial State Papers integrates two important research tools as one service: Collection CO 1 from The National Archives and Calendar of State Papers, Colonial: North America and the West Indies 1574-1739.
Garland Encyclopedia of World Music
Garland Encyclopedia is a comprehensive online resource devoted to music
research of all the world’s peoples. Each volume contains an overview of
a geographic region, a survey of its musical heritage, and a description
of specific musical genres, practices, and performances. Articles
include detailed photographs that show musicians, musical instruments,
and the cultural context of dances, rituals, and ceremonies. Other

Downtime for Barnard College Servers
The office of Management Information and Network Services will be performing necessary system updates to Barnard College servers on Friday, January 11th and Saturday, January 12th. Please read this communication carefully as the updates will disrupt a number of services.

Dormitory wireless authentication system
This downtime will affect access to the secure, authenticated wireless in Sulzberger and Elliott Hall
1:00PM - 3:00PM
Faculty, staff, and student e-mail servers
Updates on the e-mail system will ONLY affect Pine users. All webmail, Outlook, Thunderbird, and Eudora clients will NOT be affected. If you use Pine, please be sure to logout of the server prior to 1:00PM.

web (www staging server), www, and the nexus bulletin board
This downtime will affect the Barnard College website and staging server. There will be no access to the web server after 7:00PM Friday evening. Please do not attempt to make any web site updates until Saturday at 12:00PM.

The eBear portal and associated applications will be unavailable for the duration of this time period. All on and off-campus users will be affected. In addition, access to the Oracle Calendar at https://calendar.barnard.edu will be completely unavailable.

Novell file sharing (ARTEMIS and DIANA)
Novell file sharing will be unavailable for the entire window due to numerous complex updates. After the updates are completed, users who have left their computer on may have to reboot in order to reconnect to ARTEMIS, the filing sharing server.

Authenticated SMTP
Authentication to outgoing e-mail servers (SMTP) will be unavailable. This will only affect off-campus users who have set their machines to use Barnard College's SMTP server, and some users of Treo and Blackberry devices. This will ONLY affect outgoing e-mail. Outages during this window will be intermittent.

After a successful move from Low Library in October and some settling in, the University Archives reading room is now open to researchers.
